The Director of Product Development is responsible for leading the design, product, and buying teams in research for new products, product enhancements and product redesign. Evaluates the potential and practicality of products in development and relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals as well as manage all inventory levels with the team. This position requires coaching and mentoring teams and exercising independent judgment to perform the responsibilities described herein.


  • Team Management
    • Lead the Design, Product and Buying teams with an outcomes orientation
    • Manage and coach team members to goals, outcomes, and growth opportunities
    • Serve as a bridge across the organization to help break silos and develop an inclusive culture
  • Develop new products in concert with the current artisan group portfolio to be in-line with customer needs and our evolving organizational needs
  • Selects correct design concepts and fundamental technology used for new products or improvement for existing ones
  • Oversees key projects, processes and performance reports, data and analysis
  • Develops and implements a PLM to be used across multiple teams for monitoring projects such as research findings, pipeline management, and progress reports, in order to inform management of current status of each project
  • Works in tandem with Sourcing and Artisan teams to support new artisans with product opportunities and provides feedback on any product voids
  • Plans and formulates aspects of trend research and new development proposals such as objective or purpose of new product, roadmap that can be utilized from findings, and equipment and human resource requirements
  • Design products to meet sales targets, develop and cultivate relationships with clients through product and evaluate costs to determine products’ pricing when selling to customers while ensuring our margin needs are met
  • Maintain continuous lines of communication across all departments, keeping the executive team informed of critical issues
  • Support sustainability and eco-conscious solutions across all aspects of the organization
  • Participate in Director level leadership meetings to execute on vision, mission, and organizational development strategies


  • Passion, knowledge, and interest for fair trade and women’s rights
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in product management
  • Proven track record of managing high product growth and team performance
  • Self-starter with a strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit
  • Creative and innovative thinker who is self-motivating
  • Comfortable handling and digesting a large amount of real-time data
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills along with impeccable attention to detail
  • Excellent organization and planning skills – able to work independently and meet deadlines
  • A high degree of professionalism, ethics, passion, industriousness, and a can-do attitude.
  • Excited to work in a fast-paced, energetic environment
  • Knowledge of and experience with Google Docs and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Flexible work schedule (i.e. nights, weekends, and holidays)
  • Occasionally lift/move up to 25lbs of product from one location to another
