Human resources Generalist

FULL-TIME | Santa Monica or Santa ana, CA

The Human Resources Generalist acts as an employee liaison and resource on the organization’s personnel policies, compensation, and benefits. This position manages payroll, leads administrative onboarding and offboarding, and maintains systems for storing employee information and data reporting. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who have experience as a human resources assistant or generalist and bring a proactive and customer-service oriented approach to their work.

Responsibilites

  • Serves as liaison and resource to employees for the organization’s personnel policies, compensation, and benefits
  • Maintains a system to manage personnel files in accordance with document retention laws and policies and executes regular data audits for accuracy
  • Oversees payroll processing on a bi-weekly basis and reviewing all timecard entries for accuracy
  • Manages benefits administration including new employee elections and annual open enrollment, and serves as a resource to employees for general benefits related questions or concerns
  • Generally supports Director of HR with recruiting and hiring for all positions as needed
  • Conducts New Hire orientation and onboarding, which includes virtual I-9 verification, and benefits consultation and a review organization employment practices and policies
  • Regularly reviews and updates all onboarding materials to ensure in line with recent policies, procedures and impact information
  • Leads administrative onboarding in PEO system, including payroll and benefits set-up
  • Liaises with Operations department to ensure that new hires have necessary resources to effectively function
  • Implements administrative off-boarding and exit activities for departing employees including final pay, exiting information share, and partners with Operations department to collect technology and shut down accounts
  • Supports the Operations department in maintaining an accurate staff directory, including up-to-date new hires and exits
  • Partners with and supports the Director of HR in all employee engagement/appreciation and culture building activities and initiatives
  • Supports creation and execution of employee-facing resources on employment practices and policies, including compensation and benefits
  • Disseminates timely benefit and employment policy information to staff and tracks receipt for compliance purposes
  • Periodically reviews and makes recommendations on personnel policies and procedures and supports implementation
  • Assists employees with personnel information and interpretation of personnel policies
  • Compiles and distributes monthly data reports on headcount, status, tenure, and PTO balances
  • Transacts duties through an equity lens and with the organization’s core values in mind
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • 3 years of professional experience with 2+ years of experience in a human resources assistant or generalist position or in a similar role
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and project management skills.
  • Enjoys and thrives at handling logistical details and creating and improving systems
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to successfully build and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including employees, vendors/systems administrators
  • Exercises strong judgment in handling confidential information and troubleshooting problems
  • Ability to balance staff support with increasing organizational impact.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced, high volume, results-oriented environment
  • Strong demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, & inclusion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a non-profit organization
  • Experience working with a PEO (Professional Employer Organization)
  • Ability to build and effectively manage strong relationships both internally and externally
  • Experience managing projects and systems implementations from from design to execution, monitoring progress, and reporting on results
