Working as a part of a small and growing team in a fast-paced environment, this position supports buying and strategy across all product categories and helps to manage data integrity in a multi-channel inventory system. The Product Merchant / Buyer helps to manage our inventory system, places orders with our artisan partners, and monitors and allocates inventory for various sales channels. They will also advocate for product success and co-manage the entire lifecycle, from conception, through design/development, to when it launches and is reordered, to when it is phased out. With a strong understanding of our customer, this role will be able to communicate relevant product information to various departments to inform how it will be promoted on web and social, as well as a brick and mortar store. An ideal candidate intuitively has a strong understanding of fashion trends, combined with a deep appreciation for ethically sourced, fair trade products and techniques. They will also be analytically minded, using data to drive decision making.

Responsibilites

  • Co-manage inventory in a centralized system, create purchase orders, and ensure product is accurately input and updated.
  • Support in overseeing purchasing with artisan partners, taking into account different lead times and understanding the unique needs and communication styles of each artisan partner and working to improve processes and strategies.
  • Monitor inventory levels across multiple sales channels, and take into consideration inventory needs for e-commerce, retail, wholesale, custom, and design trade orders.
  • Leads inspections of ongoing shipments as they come in, checks to make sure orders have been filled correctly and makes arrangements with the Warehouse Manager and Inventory Control Associate.
  • Report QC issues from the Inventory Control Associate to the Artisan Relations and Supply Chain Senior Strategist.
  • Responsible for inventory accuracy and facilitating seasonal audits, working with Inventory Control Associate and Warehouse Manager to conduct physical audits 2-3 times per year.
  • Maintain clear, timely and open communications on product re-orders and replenishment strategy with cross-functional departments across the organization, including buying, product development and design, marketing, e-commerce, sales, artisan program, and warehouse.
  • Monitor sales and market trends and make recommendations to the team on recommended buying and forecasting strategies.
  • Maintain documents on processes relating to inventory management systems and coordinate and provide training for team members as needed.
  • Collect important product details for operational needs, including weight, dimensions, etc., and creating and assigning all SKUs.
  • Communicate purchasing status, product transfers, product discrepancies, slow moving inventory, receiving dates, and any arising issues to relevant team members.
  • Work with various shipping carriers and customs brokers to coordinate shipment of orders.

Qualifications

  • Education: A bachelor’s degree in business, product management, finance, or a related field is a plus. Or, a mix of education and relevant work experience.
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in a Buyer, Product Management and/or Product Merchant role.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets with ability to analyze and present data and trends.
  • Working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel, QuickBooks Inventory Management, ClickUp, and Slack.
  • CRM/ERP expertise preferred.
