The Senior Manager of Special Initiatives is a highly motivated, strategic-thinking individual who is passionate about building a community of support to advance our organization’s work in fair trade and social justice. Responsibilities include executing events and engagement campaigns that increase brand awareness and engagement. This role project manages two large events in spring and summer, as well as smaller events throughout the year. An ideal candidate is a savvy self-starter who identifies as a connector and community developer.

Responsibilites

  • Project manage level strategic initiatives for the organization, including spearheading spring and summer galas
  • Work closely with vendors, support with developing the program, manage the guest list, and oversee follow-up strategy with guests, sponsors, vendors and participants
  • Ensure that all event participants and staff have clear details in advance to plan and execute their responsibility
  • Oversee overall events, outreach and engagement calendar for the organization, building out timelines, and initiating advance planning and internal meetings
  • Identify high-level opportunities (including events, programs and sponsorships) and strategies that align with the organization’s vision and mission and expand our reach
  • Engage volunteers, staff and community members to support the annual gala, and organize and lead an event committee (if applicable)
  • Support coordination of invitations and follow-up with sponsors, speakers, presenters, and press for the gala as well as other events throughout the year
  • Manage any special initiatives, events and photo shoots for strategic campaigns, including overseeing the planning, preparation, day-of logistics, and follow-up
  • Collaborate with the store manager to support in-store activations and events
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with professional networks, community partners, and thought leaders in order to create meaningful experiences, events and opportunities
  • Support Council engagement, outreach and strategy
  • Develop and build relationships with non-profit organizations in support of the charity collaborations and partnerships
  • Manage and maintain relationships in CRM database system, including updating records, tracking progress, and pulling reports
  • Collaborate with Marketing Team and Warehouse Team for product selection for the programs, confirming social coverage, and coordinating product and supply deliveries and set up
  • Track and report on event KPIS and collect feedback in order to improve future planning and ensure that the organization's resources are used effectively
  • Support other strategic initiatives and provide high-level project management as needed

Qualifications

  • Passion and interest in fair trade and women’s rights
  • 5+ years of relevant experience, including project management and event planning
  • Excellent problem solving and time management skills managing multiple deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Exercises discretion and sound judgment
  • Effectively set work goals, establish priorities, and efficient planning
  • Helpful, positive, can-do attitude
  • Ability to build rapport toward all kinds of people inside and outside the organization
  • Comfortable handling and digesting a large amount of real-time data
  • A high degree of professionalism, ethics, passion, industriousness, and creativity
  • Possesses strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Strong organization and planning skills – able to work independently
  • An ability to learn and communicate about fair trade and social responsibility concepts as well as understand target markets and how to appeal to them
  • Resourceful and able to research opportunities and proactively come up with solutions
  • Agreeable to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the organization, including holidays, evening, overnight and weekend shifts as needed
