this year, we're celebrating

Since 2013, The Little Market has been committed to working with underserved communities in ways that protect their human rights and allow them to thrive. We are so proud to announce that in 2020, we have reached a significant milestone: generating more than one million hours of dignified work.

That is — one million hours that artisans and producers around the world have had access to a safe, healthy working environment and a fair, livable wage.

COVID-19 has had a devastating impact on the artisans and producers we work with in underserved communities around the globe.

At the time this report was issued, most groups had found ways to restart their operations with modified capacity, but they still face the possibility of more shutdowns. Additionally, as they reopen, they must overcome significant obstacles: limited production capacity, order backlogs, supply chain disruption, shipping delays, and increased shipping premiums. They are working hard to maintain wages, support food security, and ensure a healthy and safe operating environment for their team.

The Little Market continues to keep in close communication with each group to understand how the pandemic is impacting them and find ways to support their work.

Many of the artisan and producer groups have experienced at least one shutdown in their country. Between April and June 2020, on average, two-thirds were either closed or operating at reduced capacity6, compromising the ability of individual artisans and producers to earn an income.

06   We began data collection in March of 2020 immediately after national lockdowns were implemented at various rates in different countries. We have continued monitoring the circumstances of each group. The data in this report corresponds to the 2019-2020 fiscal year reporting period.
