All Across Africa

Rwanda is located in East/Central Africa and is commonly known as “the land of a thousand hills.” It is home to beautiful landscapes, from rivers and lakes to volcanoes and dense tropical forests. Popular industries include agricultural products and cement, while common agriculture includes coffee, tea, and bananas. The country’s primary languages are Kinyarwanda, French, English, and Kiswahili.

As of 2015, the population of Rwanda was around 11.6 million, according to the World Bank, and the nation has the highest population density within Africa. The religions most followed by this population are Roman Catholic, Protestant, Adventist, and Muslim. In the period after the 1994 genocide and civil war, Rwanda has grown economically, with average income tripling over the last decade. In 2011, the poverty rate was 45 percent, down from 59 percent in 2001.

All Across Africa

All Across Africa works with rural producer groups and business partners to supply fair trade products including beautifully hand-woven baskets that we carry. Artisans in Rwanda use locally grown sisal and sweetgrass to make these baskets. All Across Africa is a benefit corporation and gives artisans a “market bundle” including education, materials, finance, and training programs. It is a proud member of the Fair Trade Federation and aims to create sustainable income opportunities for its partners, while it is directly connecting artisans and producers to a wider external market.
