About Our Artisan Partner
Based out of Tanzania, Sidai Designs is a social enterprise collaborating with skilled Maasai women who create beautiful, handmade beaded jewelry while practicing traditional techniques. (Sidai means “good” and “beautiful” in the Maasai tribal language, Maa.) Sidai Designs works with socially and economically marginalized women, including indigenous populations and survivors of domestic violence. Most of the artisans have had limited opportunities for a formal education. By working with Sidai Designs, they have access to fair wages, several educational courses, as well as training on legal rights and health and wellness.
Due to greater market interest, the social enterprise has rapidly grown from a workshop of five artisans to a new studio space of over 120 artisans under the Sidai Maasai Women Organization. As these women gain economic independence, they are able to better serve their community and participate in essential decision-making processes.
