MEET THE ARTISAN
WELLS OF HOPE
Located in: Uganda
Wells of Hope Women Association is a community-based nonprofit organization in Uganda that works with 25 to 50 artisans, primarily women and women in leadership roles. Artisans have access to personal and professional development programs to grow and develop their skill sets. Through their work, they preserve traditional hand-looming and weaving techniques that are unique to the area. Each piece is sustainably made with banana fiber, which is extracted from the banana stem. Four people typically work together to create one product.
