Canaan Palestine is a social enterprise that collaborates with over 2,000 small-scale farming families across the region to support high-quality collections — including this range of olive oil. Olives have been cultivated in the Land of Canaan for thousands of years as a crucial social and economic resource. Traditionally, the majority of these farms are managed by families, who pass down agricultural techniques across generations. Farmworkers working with Canaan Palestine range in age from 25 to 70 years old and include women, indigenous populations, and displaced peoples.
Canaan Palestine connects with small-scale, family-managed farms across the region to source delicious infused olive oil. Farmworkers carefully hand-pick olives throughout the day and bring them to an olive press in the evening. During a quality check, the oil undergoes initial sensory and chemical testing. Next, it is pumped into nitrogen-fixed stainless steel tanks for sediment to settle. The oil is filtered, sent for a final quality check, and lastly bottled, labeled, and packed. Canaan Palestine is also committed to sustainability; each label is made from paper manufactured from sustainably sourced wood.
A key region in the development of the Middle East, Palestine is rich in tradition and has a vast history dating back to ancient civilizations. Many believe the namesake is derived from “Philistia,” or the Philistines who occupied part of this area in the 12th century B.C.
The area has vast strategic importance because it contains the main roads that connect Egypt to Syria and the Mediterranean Sea to the Jordan River. It is also considered Holy Land by multiple religious groups; Jews, Muslims, and Christians all deem it sacred. Since the 20th century, Palestine has been the object of conflicting claims of Jewish and Arab national movements, which has resulted in years of lasting political strife, violence, and occasional open warfare.
