MEET THE ARTISAN
VIKAPU BOMBA
Located in: Tanzania
Social enterprise Vikapu Bomba works with underserved artisan women in rural communities of Tanzania. It strives to help them preserve artisanal traditions that have been passed down for several generations. All of these pieces are made from a local reed grass called Milulu, which grows along the streams of Tanzania's southern highlands. The artisans are organized into producer groups and make handwoven products. The artisans develop and learn skills such as accounting, quality control, and group management while earning a sustainable income.
