HANDMADE IN TANZANIA

Sort away loose items in a pretty and practical woven basket. This organizer is crafted from Milulu, a locally sourced reed-like grass, and finished with a natural braiding along the edges. Mix and match the sizes on your desk, dresser, or shelves for countertop convenience or add them to your entryway, pantry, or drawers to tidy up.

Every purchase of this basket supports artisan women at a social enterprise in Tanzania. In rural communities of the southern highlands, they preserve generations-old weaving techniques unique to their history. They earn fair wages and grow their skills such as accounting and quality control.

VIKAPU BOMBA
Social enterprise Vikapu Bomba works with underserved artisan women in rural communities of Tanzania. It strives to help them preserve artisanal traditions that have been passed down for several generations. All of these pieces are made from a local reed grass called Milulu, which grows along the streams of Tanzania's southern highlands. The artisans are organized into producer groups and make handwoven products. The artisans develop and learn skills such as accounting, quality control, and group management while earning a sustainable income.
