The Little Market's soaking salts and sugar scrubs have been hand-blended at nonprofit social enterprise Bright Endeavors, which supports young mothers from under-resourced communities in Chicago. Through a job training program, strong women are equipped with career tools, professional development, and a life-changing means to succeed in the workforce. They are empowered to build a bright career path, raise strong families, and create loving homes and communities.
Our sugar scrubs are made from all-natural ingredients that are sourced within the United States. To make the sugar scrubs by hand, the artisans first measure out brown and white sugar into a large container, and then they measure coconut oil into a glass measuring cup. They discovered that melting the coconut oil allows for a more even consistency. After the melted coconut oil is added to the sugar, the fragrance is added in, and the ingredients are mixed together. In the last step, the dried flowers are added, if necessary, and the mixture is divided into glass jars to finish up the process.
The United States of America is the third largest country in the world. ‘The land of the free’ is also the third most populous, and the most diverse country in the world. America owes this diversity to the abundant and continuous waves of immigrants, who have brought their own cultures and traditions to a vast new country. As most of the early settlers were of European origin, the country was distinctly European in customs, arts, music, and cuisine even before becoming an independent nation. However, with the new influx of immigrants from other parts of the world, the U.S. culture is now influenced by Native American, African, Polynesian, and especially Asian and Latin American. These immigrant populations have transformed American society into a truly multicultural and multiethnic mosaic. These many layers of diversity are reflected in the vast variety of artistic styles and hand-craft work. American artisans work with traditional craft materials and processes such as woodworking, textiles, metalworking, glassblowing, ceramics, etc.
