MEET THE ARTISAN
SAVANNA BASKETS
Located in: Ghana
Based in the Bolgatanga region of Ghana, social enterprise Savanna Baskets strives to break the cycle of poverty and provide economic opportunities for artisans in a primarily rural farming community. This group consists of mostly women who have traditionally faced economically vulnerable circumstances and gender inequalities, such as limited ownership of farmlands. In a safe and supportive environment, they preserve a time-honored weaving technique while using sustainably harvested, locally sourced tropical grass. The artisans earn fair wages and have access to essential programs including healthcare, microfinance opportunities, and training.
